The Comissão de Anistia has the mandate of granting political amnesty to those who have been affected by exceptional acts as a consequence of political motivations between 09/18/1946 and 10/05/1988. The State's acknowledgement of mistakes made in the past, and of the right to resist an oppressive regime contributes to overcoming the authoritarian experience through democracy. It transforms a legacy of violence into a critical reflection on history, oriented towards the future, and towards democracy and human rights.

The collection is made up of documents on themes such as amnesty, human rights, transitional justice, repression and resistance to the dictatorship. These documents have the capacity to express the vision of events of those who suffered the persecutions of the dictatorial period, by telling the history of Brazil through the perspective of those who had their fundamental rights violated by the State.

Wider access to these documents, made possible by the MoW program, will allow the Commission to contribute to the construction of memory and to strengthen human rights and citizenship in a democratic state, raise critical awareness regarding crimes against humanity, and give visibility to the history of the right of resistance of the peoples against tyrannies, dictatorships and totalitarian regimes.
