Learie Nicholas Constantine (1901-1971), Baron Constantine of Maraval and Nelson, was born in Trinidad, into a renowned cricketing family. By the age of 27 he had become a valuable member of the Trinidad and the West Indies Cricket Teams. His career blossomed in Lancashire, England where he revolutionized League Cricket.

Constantine was a pioneer in race relations, a human rights advocate, a Pan Africanist, Head of the League of Coloured Peoples and a respected author. He was also a diplomat, a politician, a journalist and a broadcaster. In 1969, for his considerable work in furthering the rights of mankind he was elevated to become the first Black life peer in the British House of Lords.

The Constantine Collection contains personal papers/speeches; manuscripts; hand written notes; extensive correspondence; and, photographs. It also contains radio transcripts penned by and or acquired by Lord Constantine.

The Constantine Collection was inscribed on the Memory of the World, Trinidad and Tobago Register in 2010 on the Memory of the World International Register and on the MoW Regional Register for Latin America and the Caribbean in in 2011.
