Documentary Fund of the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition (CEV)

Related Documents
Truth Commissions have emerged in societies that have suffered traumatic moments due to serious and obvious violations of human rights in contexts of armed conflicts, dictatorships, authoritarian or undemocratic regimes. Their purpose is to clarify the facts from an extrajudicial perspective, identifying those most responsible for crimes committed by state, anti-state or para-state agents, in an effort to fight against impunity and reconstruct historical memory to avoid the repetition of such events.
The exhaustive search for the truth of the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition (CEV) of Colombia, materialized in the production and compilation of a large amount of data and information, is a valuable resource to understand the armed conflict in the country.
Although there are other Truth Commissions in Latin America, the work of the CEV of Colombia, being the most recent, has followed updated human rights standards, so its report has a broader and more inclusive narrative, with special emphasis on the gender approach, not only for women, but also for LGBTIQ+ people. It also has a multi-causal and broad view of the historical development of the armed conflict in Colombia, integrating testimonies from different regions, taking into account ethnic and cultural diversity.
