The Document Management Centre of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs is custodian to this collection of more than 5,400 Treaties of the Republic that are in its Central Archive. Seven pieces were selected from this collection, which constitute founding documents of the Republic of Cuba, and cultural and historical heritage of the Cuban Nation. The treaties record bilateral and multilateral agreements. These are instruments for international relations, formal documents of a traditional nature, reserved exclusively for matters of a certain importance, part of a wider range of tools under various denominations, which are adjusted at the time of negotiations between states.

They constitute accords, agreements entered between two or more states, through which legal relations of international law are resolved. Furthermore, they make up one of the documentary fonds of greatest historical value that is preserved in the Central Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The first treaties date from 1903.
