The Rubén DarÃo Museum and Archive, located in the city of León, Nicaragua, was created by Decree (Law No. 477 of March 17, 1960) and its subsequent reform by Decree (Law of January 21, 1963), opening its doors on February 6, 1964. The Rubén DarÃo Museum and Archive was created with the main objective of safeguarding, protecting and disseminating the Literary Heritage of the poet Rubén DarÃo (1867-1916), leader of Modernism, literary movement emerged in America at the end of the 19th century.
The material stored in the Museum includes original manuscripts such as poems, letters, postcards, photos, as well as first editions of Dario´s published works, magazines and newspapers that Rubén founded or directed in different countries where he resided, such as El Salvador, Guatemala, Argentina, Chile, France and Spain.
All the original material that the museum holds is fully digitized, and in an optimal state of preservation.
The Museum receives from the Government of Nicaragua a specific budget for the maintenance of the building, a colonial house of the mid-eighteenth century.
This nomination was inscribed in MoWLAC Regional Register in 2004 and inscribed an addendum in MoWLAC Regional Register in 2023.
