This unique and irreplaceable collection consists of the archive of the writer and painter Salvador Salazar Arrué, known as “Salarrué” (1899–1975), one of the most important Central American artists of the 20th century. His work is inscribed in the literary genre known as "costumbrista", but he also ventured successfully into fantastic literature, and in the creation of a vast pictorial work that he sometimes used to illustrate his stories and novels, which have been included in various Spanish-American literary anthologies.
The archive includes manuscripts of published and unpublished works, stories, essays, poetry, plays. The voluminous correspondence offers evidence of the networks of Latin American intellectuals of the time. His personal library preserves first editions of autographed books by contemporary writers. The set of photographs shows facets of his artistic life in El Salvador and New York.
This documentary set is a unique source of consultation for researchers from different countries, who come to the Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen to produce academic theses, documentary films, cartoons and literary articles.
