The city of Potosí had enormous relevance for the entire world, given its influence in the context of the global economy of the time.
After the incorporation of “Cerro Rico” to silver mining production, the incessant increase in its activity determined that in 1561, it was promoted from a seat to a town with its own council and territorial jurisdiction. Potosí, which in the 17th century was one of the most populous towns on the American continent, generated a large number of documents on activities and procedures carried out in said city.
The documentary collection is made up of 33 books of agreements, which contain the minutes of the meetings held by the city council for the dispatch of the pending matters under its responsibility: production, supplies, public works, trades, among others, being of a wealth and importance proportional to that of the famous mining seat.
