"Tiberio Lives Today: Testimonies of the Life of a Martyr, Tiberio Fernández Mafla" is a record constructed by hand by the inhabitants of the municipality of Trujillo, Valle del Cauca-Colombia, victims of what became known as the "Trujillo Massacre": a series of forced disappearances, torture, arbitrary arrests and homicides that were perpetrated by a temporary alliance between drug traffickers, paramilitaries and state agents between 1986 and 1994. The most emblematic victim of this massacre was the priest and human rights activist Tiberio Fernández Mafla (1943-1990), who was disappeared on April 17, 1990 and whose mutilated body was found days later in the Cauca River. The figure of Fernández became a symbol of the suffering of the entire town of Trujillo and that is why its inhabitants created this book, as a manifestation of resistance to oblivion.
The book is important for the community, but is also of national and regional importance, since it reconstructs, from the perspective of the victims, the memory of this case, investigated by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and the first in which the Colombian State acknowledged its responsibility.
