Girls Education Movement Clubs in Uganda (GEM clubs)GEM is a movement aimed at mobilizing children and young people in and out of school in thepromotion of girls´ education and in fighting the multiple gender-based barriers to girls´ education. Engaging adolescents directly allows them to participate in ensuring the school environment is gender responsive, inclusive, and safe in accordance with their self-identified needs. The school-based clubs model is simple, relatively cost-effective and easy to replicate in similar contexts where there are significant barriers to education, particularly for adolescent girls.
