Intangible Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Development

Planet

Numerous practices, knowledge and know-how that make up the intangible cultural heritage of the Andean countries convey a respectful and harmonious relationship with nature and promote sustainable lifestyles.

Traditional knowledge is based on worldviews and practices of care and conservation that allow for the sustainable management of such fundamental elements as water, forests, biodiversity and agri-food systems. In 2021, countries such as Colombia and Ecuador are developing initiatives to incorporate the knowledge of these peoples in scientific and environmental public policies.
