联合国教科文组织的媒体与信息素养联盟前称为媒体与信息素养伙伴关系全球联盟。它是一项开创性倡议，旨在促进国际合作，以确保所有公民都能获得媒体与信息素养。到目前为止，来自一百多个国家的组织和个人已达成共识携手合作联合推动变革。这一开创性的倡议在2013年6月26日至28日于尼日利亚阿布贾举行的媒介与信息素养伙伴关系全球论坛期间推出，其目标如下：
- 阐明具体的伙伴关系，以推动媒体与信息素养在全球的发展和影响；
- 使媒体与信息素养业界能够就某些关键问题发出一致的声音，特别是在政策方面；
- 通过在全球范围为媒体与信息素养相关网络和协会提供共同平台，进一步深化使媒体与信息素养成为综合概念的战略。
