Ethical Connections of the Third Sector Project

Its objective is to contribute to the promotion, development and strengthening of capacities of the immense network of CSOs that work in the social and environmental areas in Brazil to build a better and fairer country for all. The project involved more than 1,000 managers who work with children, adolescents and young people and benefited 147 civil society organizations (CSOs). Thus, it aims at strengthening the management of Petrobras's CSO partners, reinforcing their good governance, accountability, transparency, ethical practice, and integrity in line with compliance practices, enhancing the results and positive impacts generated by the projects developed.
The Ethical Connections of the Third Sector project () is part of the efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in line with UNESCO's institutional mission to contribute to the development of equal opportunities and social inclusion as well as promote greater transparency and accountability in the use of resources.
The project has produced intending to offer grounded training to the various actors that comprise the CSOs network. In addition, the participating CSOs will receive specialized technical support to disseminate a culture of integrity in their daily relationships and contribute to the country's advancement in key respects for building trust and enhancing the credibility of institutions.
The current initiative builds on the successful experience implemented by UNESCO and Petrobras in 2011.
Measurable Results
At the time, UNESCO developed the Empowering People and Building Capacity in Civil Society Organizations project, in which 147 CSOs had the opportunity to attend the training created primarily by Fonte Institute. As a result, it has trained more than 1,000 managers working to advocate the rights of children, adolescents, and young people. These managers were able to broaden their knowledge on issues related to:
- Accountability
- Institutional and financial sustainability
- Efficiency in administrative and financial management
- Innovation capacity
- Social impact production
- Methodology and mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation
- Communication and legal and regulatory instruments
- Project design
- Reporting
Those skills are crucial to qualifying the work done by these organizations in Brazil and driving processes of social change. Therefore, the project's evaluation and positive results have shown that investing in training and improving management is good practice for increasing professionalism among CSOs.
