Except for a few years in the Myanmar’s contemporary history, free and independent press has been elusive. But Myanmar journalists have never been discouraged. These brave hearts, working inside and outside the country, continue to practice their profession with passion and commitment to be bearers and defenders of truth.

UNESCO Antenna Office in Yangon remains committed to work with local journalists and media workers to protect and defend their freedom of expression and right to information. It is involved in journalists’ training,  crafting of professional code of conduct and reporting guidelines; initiating safety mechanisms, and advocating for gender-sensitive media. It supports studies on the state of press freedom and engages with ethnic media though projects on upgrading community media facilities and supporting content development.
