The fonds comprises documents from the "Sociedad de Accionistas para la construcción y empresa de un teatro", called the Teatro SolÃs Corporation after its construction. The collection consists of minutes, resolutions, posters, programmes, photographs, plans, reports, actions, cash books, press clippings and correspondence from 1840 to 1937. Documents reflect performing arts development in the country and the RÃo de la Plata. Considering that the Teatro SolÃs is one of the oldest theatrical institutions on the continent, this collection is an invaluable source of information for analysing the founding movements of the region's performing arts.
Along with the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina and the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Chile, the SolÃs has been a center of reference for the major companies that have visited the region since the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th.
The organisational and managerial aspects contained and detailed in the existing documentation form an invaluable set of unpublished sources for the work of researchers and knowledge of the different audiences related to the performing arts.
