The Department of culture and Civics of Manizales, Mayor鈥檚 Office of Manizales aims to strengthen cultural management and cultural participation at the local level through: 1) capacity building for local cultural agents; 2) the elaboration of mapping and local strategies for culture; 3) community engagement and participation.

How does this project contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention?

Strengthening the role of civil society in cultural policy making and implementation:

The project will promote the 鈥淟aboratory of Sociocultural Solutions鈥 which promotes co-creation with civil society, encouraging grassroots participation and collaboration, thus making cultural initiatives more inclusive and representative.

Widening participation in creation, production and distribution of cultural goods and services:

By aligning cultural programmes with the community鈥檚 diverse interests and needs, the project invites broader participation in cultural activities from various demographic groups, including marginalized communities.

Increasing women鈥檚 representation as creators and producers of cultural expressions:

The project will support women鈥檚 representation as creators and producers by fostering opportunities through the provision of funding, spaces and materials.

Main activities

  • Cultural manager training: Reinforcing skills and capacities of 30 managers of Houses of Culture in Manizales through a training programme that focuses on strategic development, creative thinking, financing models, diversity and inclusivity, and competencies in various art forms.
  • Resource mapping: Elaborating a cartography of the cultural resources and potentials of the Houses of Culture, including the development of a portfolio of goods and services to increase the visibility and outreach of the Houses of Culture in Manizales.
  • Initiative planning: Developing 13 cultural initiative plans for the Houses of Culture through the design of a 鈥淟aboratory of Sociocultural Solutions,鈥 with an approach of inclusivity, training and co-creation with civil society.
  • Capacity building: Training beneficiaries of the Houses of Culture to present their cultural and artistic productions and to enhance their business skills.
