Presentation

Mutaciones Artes Didácticas y Experimentaciones aims to promote gender equality in the performing and visual arts in Mazatlán, Mexico, through: 1) open calls to foster artistic development and community engagement; 2) capacity-building initiatives; 3) performances that empower local talent and enhance cultural participation.

How does this project contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention?

Increasing women’s representation as creators and producers of cultural expressions through strengthened professional networks and capacity development.

The project will support the empowerment of young female artists through open calls, training workshops and mentorship, providing opportunities to develop their skills, showcase their work, and strengthen their representation as creators and producers in cultural expressions.

Introducing specific policy measures and/or funding mechanisms to encourage and improve equitable access to cultural events, goods and services.

The project will support access to cultural expressions for marginalized communities, particularly women and children, through inclusive public performances, community engagement, and data-driven impact assessment, fostering cultural diversity, equitable participation and economic growth in Mazatlán’s cultural sector.

Main activities

  • Showcasing young women artists: Hosting three open calls to find 54 young women performing and visual artists who will develop and showcase their creative process across 26 performances.
  • Increased access to art: Connecting the resulting performances to people who lack access to cultural expressions by providing transportation from schools and shelters for women to the performances and through guided activities around the performances.
  • Training workshops: Organizing six training workshops for the young women artists in the areas of production, management, and design and creative processes alongside mentoring from experienced artists.
