Presentation
The Anahad Foundation aims to promote gender equality in the music industry by: 1) conducting large-scale, in-depth research on barriers to gender representation in the music industry and cultural participation; 2) developing a mentorship and skill-development programme for gender minorities in the music industry.
How does this project contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention?
Addressing critical capacity development needs relating to creation, production, distribution:
The project will support capacity-building activities for individuals and institutions in the music sector on the integration of gender minorities through mentorship and skill-development programmes.
Widening participation in creation, production and distribution of cultural goods and services for previously excluded regions and social groups:
The project will support the inclusion of gender minorities in the music industry and will support wider cultural participation.
Increasing women’s representation as creators and producers of cultural expressions through strengthened professional networks and capacity development:
The project will support gender equality and women’s empowerment, as activities target strengthening networking and capacities of gender minorities in the music sector.
Main activities
- Report on gender inequalities: Through surveys, interviews, and secondary research, preparing a report on gender inequalities in India’s music industry and a ten-point directive for improving gender representation in the industry with stakeholder pledges for its implementation.
- Mentorship: Connecting up to 100 pairs of mentors and mentees to support gender minorities in India’s music industry through talent incubation and growth opportunities.
- Skill development: Organizing targeted skill development programs for 50 individuals who identify as belonging to a gender minority group in partnership with ten music entities across the country in an effort to build a national culture of representation equitable development.
