Presentation
The World Music Association of Serbia aims to create an enabling environment for the development of the music industry in Serbia, focusing on youth empowerment, through: 1) the creation of an online portal, “Play it!”, to serve as the resource for strategic planning in favor of the music industry; 2) the organization of a conference on the strategic development of the music industry; 3) the elaboration of a report on the situation of young artists and artists from marginalized groups in the music industry and the implementation of targeted capacity-building activities; 4) awareness-raising activities.
How does this project contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention?
Creating a sustainable system of governance for culture that promotes the diversity of cultural expressions through targeted structural change for the music industry:
The project will foster sectoral collaboration among independent artists, cultural small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), non-cultural SMEs, NGOs, and municipal decision-makers. Additionally, the project will support strategic planning for the sustainable and inclusive development of the music industry. The creation of a portal will highlight opportunities for collaboration, enhance networking and promote sustainable productions models.
Widening participation in cultural creation, production and distribution of cultural goods and services for previously excluded regions and social groups:
The project will support youth empowerment and inclusivity through targeted activities and reports for young artists, including individuals with disabilities and from marginalized groups, aiming at their including in the music sector.
Main activities
- Strategic planning hub: Creating the “Play it!” portal which will act as a central hub for networking, data collection and job opportunities, informing at least 2,000 stakeholders in the music industry and culminating in a concert of emerging artists to promote decentralization and diversity.
- Artist training: Strengthening the capacities of at least 30 young artists, including individuals with disabilities and from marginalized groups, through trainings and masterclasses, along with the elaboration of a report on young artists in the music industry.
- Stakeholder engagement: Organizing a conference on the strategic development of the music industry, bringing together stakeholders to discuss inclusivity, networking and policy improvements.
- Institutional capacity building: Enhancing the capacities of the Music Information Centre of Serbia (MICS) to collect and disseminate industry data, advocate for fair practices and propose policy changes.
- Awareness raising: Showcasing the project’s activities with a nationwide public awareness campaign, “All You Ever Wanted to Know About Music in Serbia?!”
