Presentation

The Eswatini Copyright & Neighbouring Rights Society aims to reinforce copyright and related rights enforcement by: 1) building capacities on copyright management and compliance; 2) developing a national strategy for collective copyright management and commercialization; 3) increasing public awareness of copyright laws.

How does this project contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention?

Supporting sustainable systems of governance for culture by establishing a copyright governance system

The project will support the elaboration of a national strategy on collective copyright management and commercialization, ensuring structural change for artists and cultural professionals. This strategy aims to foster proper remuneration and economic stability, particularly benefitting youth who are significantly represented in this creative sector.[CM1] [JF2]

Demonstrating cross-sectoral cooperation in cultural policy making and implementation

The project will ensure the participation of diverse perspectives, particularly from civil society, in the elaboration of the national strategy, through consultative meetings, the organization of an Eswatini Copyright Summit, and online surveys.

Addressing critical capacity development needs for the cultural and creative industries, contributing to their sustainable development.

The project will implement a two-pronged approach: 1) capacity building for rights holders, artists and cultural professionals, including a preliminary capacity gap analysis; 2) awareness raising for the public.

Main activities
