Collecting data on the status of the artist in Peru to inform policymaking

The objective of the project, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, was to carry out an investigation to collect data on the working conditions of artists in the Peruvian context, which is widely informal, independent, and intermittent, and where multi-employment is common. The provides a detailed vision of the socioeconomic, educational and labor conditions of culture and art workers in Peru. To guarantee that the study collects information from all of Peru, 19 information sessions aimed at the 25 regions of the country were held, reaching 791 artists and the participation of 260 art workers. This allowed the collection of information from various profiles of cultural workers, based on an inclusive approach. This process also allowed the improvement and update of the web-platform the (Rentoca). 

The final data comes from complete and valid records collected by the Ministry of Culture between June 29 and October 8, 2023, which make up a sample of 4,348 records collected in the field across the web-platform Rentoca. The final publication features eight sections that include background, conceptual framework, methodological design, a general analysis of the sample, an analysis according to the arts sector, an analysis according to the macro-region, an analysis at the gender level and final specific conclusions and recommendations to inform policymaking and the reinforcement of the status of artists and cultural professionals in Peru.
