The National Institute of Indigenous Affairs (Instituto Nacional de Asuntos Indígenas - INAI), a national agency responsible for implementation of the rights of indigenous people, proposes to create new opportunities for Argentine indigenous filmmakers by: 1) strengthening the capacities of indigenous youths in filmmaking; 2) promoting the emergence of film collectives comprised of indigenous filmmakers; 3) promoting audiovisual contents produced by indigenous people.

How does this project contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention?

  • Widens participation in creation, production and distribution of cultural goods. The project will enable young people from the indigenous communities of Wichi, Mbyá Guaraní, Huarpe, Kolla, and Qom to participate in the creation and production of films. In addition, the project will promote their creations through a digital platform developed specifically for the dissemination of indigenous audiovisual productions and through a collective exhibition.
  • Introduces measures to improve equitable access to cultural goods. The project works with gender-equal group of youths, promoting the equal participation of indigenous women and training communities about women rights.

Main activities

  • Organize training in audiovisual production, script, direction, photography, sound, editing and post-production to six indigenous communities.
  • Produce six documentary films capturing the world view and values of indigenous peoples.
  • Provide training in administrative tools for project management.
